The Mission Statement of The Floating Cactus LP
In 2023, after a period of introspection, I began recording a handful of songs. What started with travel-inspired phone recordings and rough guitar sketches evolved into a downtempo desert-themed album built from field recordings, new instruments I pushed myself to learn, and percussive experiments. Recording drums in the studio and reshaping them through the SP-404mkII and MPC 2000XL gave this record the viby groove it needed.
The Floating Cactus is a downtempo desert album shaped by my travels. Each track is built from recordings I collected on the road, string instruments I learned to play, hand percussion from different regions, and field samples that capture the textures of airy and lush atmospheric places.
This album reflects my effort to grow as a musician, blending new instruments and global rhythms into cinematic downtempo grooves. The result is a desert-inspired journey of strings, drums, and layered soundscapes. This music is meant for deep listening and expanding.
